The Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 is a Shiraz-based red wine blend with inspiration drawn from Frances Rhne Valley. The hand-picked fruit was sourced from amongst the original 1969 plantings on the Estate. The Shiraz and Marsanne that were established in 1969, plus additional Shiraz, Mataro & Viognier drawn from vines planted from 1984 to 1995; all unirrigated. The wine was aged for 15 months in French oak barriques (40% new). The Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 exudes intense perfume, red fruits, floral notes and spice. The addition of Mataro and co-fermentation with the white grapes – Viognier and Marsanne- intensify the Shiraz character while providing complexity, richness and generosity. Primary fruit leads onto savoury graphite and white pepper underpinned by stalkiness and concentrated meatiness. The palate is medium-bodied yet weighty and concentrated. It features a fresh, clean and detailed mouthfeel. Generous fruit plumpness, assertive tannins and crisp acidity are given additional volume by co-fermented Mataro and white varieties. A wine of great poise and length with fruit to flesh out over time. [#intro]A Shiraz-based wine of great poise with inspiration drawn from France’s Rhne Valley…[/intro]
