The Pyramid Valley Orange wine is a blend of three sustainably farmed vineyards, free of artificial chemicals or fertilisers in Waipara (‘muddy water’), North Canterbury. Pinot Gris makes for most of the blend (80%) while Sauvignon Blanc (11%), Riesling (7%), Muscat (1%) and Gewurztraminer (1%) make the rest of the blend. At the winery the grapes were primarily whole bunch fermented for 12 – 24 days in open top fermenters. Aged in clay amphora and old barrels for 8 months without SO2 before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Beautiful hazy amber in appearance. Pear, stone fruit, orange and negroni-like spices on the nose. Spicy fine tannin structure with delicate floral negroni like flavours. Long and morish. Match with a light curry. [#intro]Based primarily on the Pinot Gris grape this Orange wine offers up Negroni like flavours…[/intro]
