Glen Garioch Adelphi 21 Year Old Single 1st Fill Sherry Butt #774 Cask Strength Single Malt

This Adelphi Glen Garioch was distilled in 1993 and bottled in 2014 from a first-fill ex-Sherry Butt which produced 501 bottles.

A dry nose, almost meaty (pork crackling), becoming more Marsala-like. Jaffa cakes, Black Forest Gateau, chocolate ice cream and coffee grounds – all synonymous with long, sherries maturation. It starts relatively closed then develops huge complexity, now with Brazil nuts coated in dark chocolate, molasses, saddle soap and old leather bags.WSD: Spicy ginger cake. Jamaica cake. Dark chocolate ragu.

Incredibly viscous to taste, with a spicy mouthfeel, gently drying over a palate of chocolate bonbons, toffee sauce (possibly slightly burnt), and a hint of brandy snaps.WSD: Salted fruit cake with a sweet-spicy sauce and well-aged oloroso sherry with tinned fruit cocktail. We also detected smoky ask on the finish.
