Akashi Aged 5 Years in SAKE Cask Single Malt Whisky

This Single Malt Japanese Whisky from Eigashima Shuzo (White Oak Distillery) in Hyogo Prefecture was distilled from lightly peated barley in copper pot stills before aging for 4 years in ex-bourbon barrels. It is then finished for an additional year in casks that held Kijoshu Sake, a particularly rich and intense variety of Sake that is made by replacing some of the water used during fermentation with finished sake; similar in robustness to a sherry, this unique sake finish imparts a unique character to Akashi’s elegant single malt.The whisky has anose of walnut & vanilla with just a hint of peat. A palate of bittersweet orange and chocolate-covered banana finishes with drying notes of black tea and leather. Bottled at 50% abv.
